Governors State University (GovState) is excited to announce a dynamic new partnership! The GovState powerhouse Online Teaching and Learning (ONTL) Certificate program is officially expanding to the University Center of Lake County (UCLC), bringing cutting-edge professional development directly to educators and trainers across the region.

Designed to meet the surging demand for tech integration and visionary instructional leadership, this fully online, cohort-based program is custom-built for the digital-first era.

Registration Opens: Monday, October 26, 2026

Classes Begin: Tuesday, January 19, 2027 (Spring 2027 Term)

This 18-credit-hour, non-degree graduate certificate features six comprehensive, evening-delivered courses designed for maximum flexibility. Whether you are a K-12 teacher, higher-ed faculty member, or a corporate and nonprofit trainer, this program is your ticket to mastering the virtual classroom.

Why Choose GovState’s ONTL?

Zero Barriers to Entry: No teaching license or prior teaching experience is required, just a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution.

Future-Proof Your Career: The curriculum aligns with International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) standards and offers stackability toward GovState's upcoming Master of Arts in Education (anticipated Fall 2027).

Walk Away with a Portfolio: At completion of the program, walk away with a portfolio-ready online course built during your hands-on production practicum.

"Students will develop practical, in-demand skills to design, facilitate, assess, and produce engaging online learning experiences across K–12, higher education, and professional training settings," said Dr. Marlon Cummings, Dean of the College of Education and Human Development at GovState. “Through a combination of applied coursework and a hands-on course production practicum, graduates will leave the program with a portfolio-ready online course and the confidence to leverage instructional technologies to improve teaching, learning, and learner engagement.”
