Grayslake, IL — The University Center of Lake County (UCenter) is excited to announce four new academic programs designed to address workforce needs and expand access to high-quality education. These programs reflect University Center’s ongoing commitment to providing flexible and relevant learning opportunities for both traditional and non-traditional students in the region.
The new programs include:
ENLACE Higher Education, Master's program – Northeastern Illinois University
Lake County Teacher Residency – DePaul University & AUSL Chicago
Supply Chain Management Certificate – Southern Illinois University Edwardsville
Total Quality Management Certificate – Southern Illinois University Edwardsville
A cornerstone of this launch is the ENLACE Higher Education Master’s Program, a graduate degree from Northeastern Illinois University that prepares students for leadership roles in higher education. With a focus on supporting first-generation college students and those from diverse backgrounds, the program provides essential tools for navigating and advancing in academic environments.

"The ENLACE program is more than a degree—it’s about building a new generation of leaders who understand the evolving needs of today’s student population,” said Dr. Grabiel Cortez.
The program also offers the ENLACE Fellowship, a limited scholarship opportunity for students who demonstrate a strong commitment to serving Latinx communities, Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs), and first-generation students.
Fellowship applications are due by July 15, 2025. Recipients will be notified by the end of July, with funding distributed in early September.
Selection is based on applicants’ personal statements and alignment with the program’s mission.
About the Chicago Teacher Residency - Academy for Urban School Leadership (AUSL):
Residents are enrolled at DePaul University at a reduced tuition rate of approximately $20,400 and may qualify for more than $34,000 in financial assistance, including a $22,100 training scholarship paid directly to participants.
Become a Teacher in One Year

University Center of Lake County is also introducing the Lake County Teacher Residency, a community-based initiative that allows aspiring educators to earn teaching credentials while gaining hands-on experience in local classrooms. This model not only supports the development of well-prepared teachers, but also strengthens school communities through long-term educator engagement.

Career Development Certificates
In collaboration with Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE), University Center is also offering two industry-focused graduate certificates that support career development:
The Supply Chain Management Certificate prepares professionals for roles in logistics, procurement, and operations—key areas in Lake County’s manufacturing sector.
The Total Quality Management Certificate focuses on practical tools and strategies for leading quality assurance and continuous improvement initiatives across various industries.
“These programs were developed with input from local employers and educators,” said Norma Vilchis, Academic Advisor. “Whether you’re looking to lead in education or grow in logistics and operations, University Center offers convenient pathways to career advancement.”
Enrollment is now open for all four programs. Many courses are offered online or in hybrid formats to support working adults balancing school, work, and life.
