Public Safety Management, BS

The BS in Public Safety Management (PSM) Bachelor program is designed to provide advanced practical course work in the areas of FIRE, EMS and EMA service-related management and supervision. The program trains individuals to identify, analyze and resolve problems within their discipline as it pertains to the labor force, fiscal aspects, data analysis, legal issues, and human resources management. That enhances the successful graduate's career in the public safety industry, and prepares the graduate in the Fire/EMS and EMA profession. The program is an evolution of the previously-offered BS in Fire Service Management.

Admission Requirements

  • Minimum GPA 2.0/4.0 and an A.A.S. related to public safety to be considered for the Capstone program.

  • Prior formal training equivalent in a public safety related A.A.S., prior public safety related licensure or certification or prior employment in a public safety related field. Contact the Site Program Coordinator for more information.

  • Off-campus admission application accompanied by a $40.00 fee

  • Official transcripts for all prior coursework

Delivery Method

The 48hrs PSM major is offered via weekend and independent study on a 16 month (4 semester) cycle. Each semester includes 2 classroom courses, 2 online course including independent study courses. Classroom courses meet the 1st, 4th and 7th weekend of the class on either Saturday or Sunday from 8 am to 5pm. The 2nd 3rd 5th 6th and 8th weeks meet via the Internet.
