Master of Science in Education in Instructional Technology

This 36 credit hour, fully-online program prepares individuals for professional work in three distinct areas:

  1. The Distance Education option prepares students for designing, producing, and teaching online courses. The focus includes tools and techniques for ensuring that online courses lead to effective learning.

  2. The Educational Technologies option enables school teachers and personnel to plan, implement, and evaluate activities in classroom settings.

  3. The Instructional Design and Performance Improvement option prepares students to work as corporate trainers, multimedia learning technologists, curriculum writers, instructional designers, performance improvement specialists, and learning consultants.

Admission Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree

  • 2.50 or higher undergraduate GPA

Transfer Policy

9 hours from other schools; 12 hours taken at SIUE in non-degree seeking status.

Special Characteristics

  • Heavy emphasis on mentorship from a faculty advisor

  • Digital portfolios as a means of sharing your work with faculty and other students

  • End-of-semester online symposia as an additional means of collaboration and sharing of ideas

  • Department also offers an 18-credit Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Web-Based Learning.
