Certificate in Higher Education Administration

Higher education has become increasingly complex as issues of student access and competition, new learning methods, funding sources, and changing student demographics dramatically impact how colleges operate and plan for the future. The certificate in higher education administration provides a unique and highly flexible curriculum that combines coursework in higher education with management, marketing, and governance options. In this certificate program, you will learn effective methods for competitive program analysis and strategic planning; study the organizational, governance, and leadership practices in higher education; and understand how campus environments influence student learning and identity. Upon completion of the certificate, you'll have improved your ability to analyze operations and make program decisions, and be able to operate more effectively within your higher education organization.

Admission Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution

  • Completed application, essay, and current resume

  • Two completed recommendations

  • Official transcripts from all colleges attended

  • No GMAT or GRE required if cumulative GPA is above 3.0. Also waived if applicant has a graduate degree from an accredited institution or completes their first 5 SBNM courses with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Transfer Policy

Up to 4 courses (8 sh) from an accredited graduate program. Also, up to 2 core courses may be waived if taken at the undergraduate level with a grade of "B" or higher.

Special Characteristics

  • An array of online graduate certificates is designed to provide managers and leaders with a pragmatic education that addresses the special concerns and problems of managing in a rapidly changing world. All coursework may be applied to any of North Park's five graduate management degrees, including the MBA.

  • Courses can also be taken at the main campus on the north side of Chicago.
