Bachelor of Science in Special Education (LBS1)

The program results in a bachelor's degree and prepares students to earn Illinois State Certification in Special Education by passing State tests and applying to the state directly for licensure.

Delivery Method

A cohort of 12-25 students moves through the program together. Cohorts begin in the spring semester. Course work within each semester is integrated to give students a more holistic experience with the content and practical applications of the material.

Admission Requirements

  • Completion of required courses that serve as prerequisites for entry into the Teacher Education Program

  • An overall GPA of 2.75 or higher

  • Completion of SIUC Admissions application and Teacher Education Program application by April 1st.

Transfer Policy

TRANSFER POLICY: Students may transfer in the required credit hours in the liberal arts core from an accredited two or four year institution. Consultation with the coordinator should be done as early as possible since there are required courses that serve as prerequisites to entry in to the Teacher Education Program.
