University Center Adds New Programs for 2012

Three new programs were added to the University Center of Lake County for 2012 in action taken by the Center’s Governing Board at their December 7, 2011 meeting. Southern Illinois University Carbondale has added two undergraduate programs and Concordia University Chicago has added a graduate program.
Financial aid workshops to be offered throughout Lake County

College students and their parents can get help applying for college financial aid by attending a free FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) Workshop, to be held at locations throughout Lake County from Jan. 14 to March 20.
Senator Edward D. Maloney Addresses SIUC Graduates

State Senator Edward D. Maloney was the commencement speaker last Saturday at a ceremony honoring the 16th cohort of adult students to earn the Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education at the University Center of Lake County through a program offered by Southern Illinois University Carbondale.

New Documentary on Leopold Showing at University Center of Lake County

Join us September 20th at the University Center of Lake County for a screening of Green Fire, the first full-length, high-definition documentary film ever made about legendary conservationist Aldo Leopold and his environmental legacy. Following the film, NEIU Associate Professor Daniel Milsky will lead a discussion of the ethics that Aldo Leopold evolved over his lifetime and their connection to today. He will be joined by NEIU graduate student Anja Claus, organizational coordinator of the Center for Humans and Nature, and by Trisha Steele, who has been an advocate of ecosystem restoration and a volunteer with Volo Bog and the Sierra Club Outings Group. We hope that a lively discussion will conclude the evening.

WIU Becomes 19th Member

Western Illinois University (WIU) became the nineteenth member of the University Center of Lake County in action taken by the Executive Committee of the Center’s Governing Board on April 27, 2011. WIU will offer doctoral and education specialist programs in educational leadership.
Administrative Professionals Luncheon on April 27th
Dr. Judith Wright will be the keynote speaker at a luncheon co-hosted by University Center and the Greater Lakes Chapter of the International Association of Administrative Professionals on April 27th. In addition to the buffet and the keynote speech, the event will include a panel of local experts and a table-top exposition by a variety of local vendors.
